Welcome to the Smart Business Recovery team, MaxPosted: Oct 29, 2026

Choosing a new team member for an insolvency practice is an important decision. Not only does the person you choose need to meet your hard skills requirements, but they also need the soft skills to fit with your company ethos and culture. That’s why here at Smart Business Recovery, we only consider people who have the qualifications needed to understand the complexities of insolvency, coupled with the empathy and professionalism needed to meet our standards and culture.

Add to that list finding someone early in their career who has the potential to develop and grow into the next generation of insolvency professionals, and you have quite an uphill task on your hands.

So, that is why we’re pleased to welcome our new Junior Case Administrator, Max, to Smart Business Recovery Limited.

Becoming an insolvency professional is about more than the numbers.

Max recently completed his degree in Business Economics at the University of Reading, which is where his interest in insolvency began. During the COVID pandemic, he found himself looking into some Certificate of Proficiency in Insolvency (CPI) coursebooks. That reading sparked an interest in the profession that he carried with him after he graduated.

To build on that early interest, Max is very keen to start his Certificate of Proficiency in Insolvency (CPI) studies as soon as possible. However, he understands that he also needs to develop a practical understanding of insolvency. So, he is dedicated to learning how the principles he has read about apply to individual cases.

He is certainly going to need that dedication to learning and personal growth because insolvency work is much more than just the numbers. It brings together financial information, legal processes and empathy for the circumstances of the people involved. Understanding how these fit together is an important part of learning the profession.

Supporting the next generation of insolvency professionals

Every experienced professional must start somewhere. Qualifications matter, and they certainly provide a valuable and required foundation. However, they are only part of the story. It is working alongside knowledgeable colleagues that lays the foundations of judgement, confidence and communication that a professional can build a career on.

In insolvency, those foundations have a vital and very human importance. Behind the paperwork are directors, employees, creditors and families who may be facing uncertainty and dealing with difficult times. Learning to understand their concerns and communicate with care is an essential part of becoming a capable professional.

So, it’s an interesting, multi-skilled and, at times, a challenging road ahead for Max… but we are certain he is up to the journey.

Away from the office

Outside work, Max enjoys football, having previously played at a competitive level. He also likes eating out and spending time with his friends and family.

Welcome to the team, Max.

We’re pleased you’ve chosen to begin your career with Smart Business Recovery, and we look forward to helping you develop into one of the new generation of Insolvency Professionals and to many years as part of our team.
